Alta Peruvian Lodge is for couples who want Alta’s old-school ski-soul, a strong ceremony view of Mount Superior, and the freedom to take on design and decor with a DIY approach. The lodge shuts to the public for the summer, so there are no other guests, no foot traffic and no one else’s event running down the hall.
Inside, the dining room and the Alf Engen Room are wood walls and beamed ceilings and the lived-in feel of a place that has been hosting skiers for decades. It’s rustic, and it earns the word.
Alta Peruvian Lodge Wedding Quick Facts

Dogs aren’t allowed within 1,000 feet of Little Cottonwood Creek under Salt Lake City code, which takes in the Alta Peruvian Lodge grounds. Service and guide dogs are the exception, and a special permit can open the door otherwise.
Curfew — Alta Peruvian Lodge sets no time limit on how late a wedding runs, though the Town of Alta’s noise ordinance restricts audible sound between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Ceremony Sites at Alta Peruvian Lodge
Ceremonies happen outside on the grounds, described as a meadow at the side of the building, facing south with Mount Superior behind the couple. The pool deck has also served as a ceremony spot; ask the lodge which is available for your date.
Reception Spaces at Alta Peruvian Lodge
Dinner is served in the dining room, and dancing moves to the Alf Engen Room downstairs.
A dance floor and audio and visual equipment come with the booking, and there’s a piano on the amenities list.
Chairs and banquet tables for the ceremony and the reception are included, staff handle setup and teardown, and there are public restrooms near the reception area and the main entrance.
Getting Ready, Lodging & Guest Logistics
Two suites on the second floor are set aside for getting ready, available up to eight hours before the ceremony. Confirm the current window with the lodge.
Nobody sleeps at the lodge on a wedding weekend. Snowbird is close by with hundreds of rooms and condos, and Alta Lodge up the canyon has rooms too; staff will also pass along a list of nearby resorts. There’s a large parking lot on site.
The drive up is Little Cottonwood Canyon Road, SR-210, which carries seasonal restrictions. The lodge sends guests to 511 or UDOT’s Cottonwood Canyons page for current conditions. There’s hiking right outside the door, plus mountain biking and fishing in Little Cottonwood Creek, if guests want to make a weekend of it.
Catering & Vendors at Alta Peruvian Lodge
The lodge doesn’t provide food service. You choose your own caterer, and they get use of the kitchen’s ice machine, sinks, prep tables and refrigerators for staging and prep.
Outside vendors are welcome otherwise. There’s no required list and no company you have to use beyond the bartender.

Chairs, banquet tables, the dance floor, the audio and visual equipment and the setup and teardown are all part of that figure, as are the days on either side of the wedding for decorating and striking.
Catering, alcohol, a bartender, kegs and rooms for your guests are not. Those get booked and paid for separately, and because alcohol is bring-your-own, you can buy it yourself as long as a licensed bartender pours it.
A Photographer’s Take on Alta Peruvian Lodge
Alta Peruvian has a hold on people who ski Alta, and the après scene is a lot of the reason why. That chill, down-home sensibility carries into the management and the overall feel of the place, and it helps that the lodge isn’t operating during the summer.
One thing here that a lot of the mountain resorts I shoot don’t have: the ceremony site faces south. At most of them the light comes blasting in from the west, and by the time the ceremony starts, whoever is facing forward is staring straight into the sun.
The ceremonies at the Peruvian are oriented for the view instead, and the view is Mount Superior. It’s close enough that it feels like you could reach out and touch it.
If you book this place for any reason beyond the price of entry and the freedom to do things yourself, it’s for that ceremony view. It’s one of the best I shoot.
