Alta’s Rustler Lodge is a charming mountain wedding venue for couples who want an easy place to settle in and celebrate with their favorite people. You can buy out the whole lodge, which turns the wedding into a weekend instead of an afternoon. Guests check in Friday and nobody has to drive anywhere until Sunday.
The ceremony lawn overlooking Little Cottonwood Canyon is ace, and the flow from there to cocktails on the patio to dinner upstairs carries the day on its own. If you love mountain culture and skiing, and you want your wedding to feel like a shared experience rather than a one-day event, this is for you.

Ceremonies are on the lawn, on cut grass, with wildflower gardens and the lodge’s own waterfall beside it and the Alta ski runs and Little Cottonwood Canyon behind. White lawn chairs are set out for guests.
There’s an indoor ceremony option if the weather turns.
Reception Spaces at Alta’s Rustler Lodge
The Rustler Dining Room is 1,600 square feet and takes dinner. Upstairs from it, the Eagle’s Nest Bar and Lounge runs 1,200 square feet around a 360-degree fireplace, with high-top tables.
The Cocktail Patio sits next to the ceremony lawn with teak tables and chairs, so cocktail hour happens a few steps from where the ceremony ended.
The Rehearsal Dinner Deck has its own tables, chairs and firepit, and the lodge hosts the Friday-evening rehearsal dinner out there.
Across the lodge, 180 is the ceiling for a buffet reception and 120 for a plated dinner. The lodge hosts one wedding a day, so a full weekend buyout means yours is the only one there that whole stretch.
Getting Ready, Lodging & Guest Logistics
There are 2 dressing rooms, and the wedding-night suite is complimentary. Tables, chairs, china, glassware, linens and staffing come with the wedding.
A standard buyout runs Friday 2 p.m. check-in to Sunday checkout at noon, which gives you the rehearsal dinner, the wedding and a slow Sunday morning in one booking.
There are 85 rooms, 60 of them in the wedding block, and continental breakfast is included in the block rate. Five of the 85 are suites, each with a private balcony — worth asking which room you’ll get, since views vary.
Guests who’d rather not stay on-site have hotels and condos in Alta and around Snowbird, reachable by shuttle, plus Airbnb and VRBO listings up the canyon.
Guests who stay get the outdoor heated pool, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, a eucalyptus steam room, a sauna, a spa and a fitness room. There’s hiking nearby too, and Snowbird, just down the canyon, has alpine slides, a mountain coaster and rock climbing for guests looking to fill time between events.
There’s no self-parking in Alta, so everyone valets. A complimentary shuttle runs between Alta and Snowbird, and the lodge tells guests not to count on Uber or Lyft getting up the canyon.
Catering & Vendors at Alta’s Rustler Lodge
The lodge caters every wedding and no outside food comes in, so your menu is theirs. The menu runs to pasta, seafood, local vegetables, salads and desserts.
All alcohol is bought and served through the lodge, which is Utah liquor law rather than a house preference. Nothing leaves the event open or closed, and servers card everyone.
Drinks are billed per drink on consumption with a 20% service fee, and a cash bar adds an upcharge per drink. The beverage menu is due 6 weeks before the wedding.
You hire your own day-of coordinator. The lodge has an on-site coordinator working the property and will recommend vendors, and your coordinator is still your hire.

Alta’s Rustler Lodge Wedding Cost
Alta’s Rustler Lodge doesn’t publish a rate card. Pricing is quoted per couple against guest count, the room block and catering, so the number comes by phone or email.
The last figures we had from the lodge, published in 2023, were $12,500 for a Friday wedding, $15,000 for a Saturday and $25,000 for the full weekend buyout, and we’re working on getting couples a current one.
Here Comes The Guide lists a similar range and puts food from about $150 a person. The Knot shows a $45,000 starting price, but that’s their own calculated estimate rather than a figure from the lodge.
A few costs the lodge does state plainly. Beverages carry a 20% service fee and are billed per drink, with a $1 upcharge per drink at a cash bar. Valet parking is $35 a day, and there’s no self-parking option in Alta.
Room minimums shape the rest of the budget. The standard wedding block takes at least 15 rooms and the full weekend buyout takes 30.
A Photographer’s Take on Alta’s Rustler Lodge
I’m not supposed to pick favorites among the venues I shoot. This one is up there.
What I love here is the flow. The ceremony is on actual grass, looking out at the ski resort, and the way the site is positioned in front of the ridgeline gives you real symmetry, which my eye likes more than it probably should.
Then cocktail hour is right there on the patio next to the lawn, and there’s plenty of shade. That’s a good window for family photos, because you’re not putting anyone’s grandmother in hard midday light to do it.
From there you go upstairs and eat indoors in a dining hall of dark wood, which feels finished without being fussy, and the dance party carries on with guests stepping out onto the deck for the sunset.
Like the other Alta lodges, there are canyon views in every direction once the light goes gold. What sets this one apart is the ski lift.
There’s an actual chairlift here that carries guests up in winter, and the staff will bring out ladders so you can climb up and be photographed on a chair in your wedding attire, which is a pretty unique feature.
It makes for photos that mean something to couples who ski, and from what I’ve seen, most couples getting married here do.
