Jordanelle State Park’s Hailstone Event Center is one of the most accessible and budget-friendly wedding venues near Park City. The building itself is simple, and the landscape does the heavy lifting: a lawn that runs out toward Jordanelle Reservoir, the Wasatch behind it, and the back side of Deer Valley Resort across the water.
It’s a blank canvas, which suits couples who are happy to bring in their own rentals and put their own stamp on the place. Here’s what it costs and what a day out there actually looks like.

Location — Hailstone Event Center sits in the Hailstone Recreation Area of Jordanelle State Park, about 35 miles east of Salt Lake City near Heber City and about 10 miles from Park City.

Ceremony Sites at Jordanelle State Park Hailstone Event Center
Ceremonies happen on the lawn outside the building, looking out over Jordanelle Reservoir with the Wasatch Mountains and the back side of Deer Valley Resort behind the water.
Boats move back and forth on the reservoir during the day. They’re far enough off that they read as distance rather than distraction.
The park doesn’t name a separate ceremony site or charge a ceremony fee. The rental covers every space in the event center, indoors and out.
Reception Spaces at Jordanelle State Park Hailstone Event Center
The rental includes the Atrium, the Hall, the Trout Room and the kitchen.
The Atrium seats up to 80 and the Hall up to 60 for a luncheon-style meal, which are smaller numbers than the building’s overall ceiling of 220 indoors or 500 indoors and out. Those room figures are for seated meals in a single space, not for a reception that spreads across the whole event center.
There are 90 chairs for indoor or outdoor use and 53 wooden chairs for indoors, 143 in total, along with 12 round tables, 2 serpentine tables, 2 half-round tables and a mobile reception counter.
The Trout Room books on its own for a smaller gathering, at its own rate, separate from the full event center.
Getting Ready, Lodging & Guest Logistics
There are no guest rooms attached to Hailstone Event Center.
Jordanelle State Park has 5 cabins that sleep 6 to 8, 3 of them pet-friendly, plus 3 cottages (Blue Goose, Lazy L and Moulton Manor) and RV and tent camping. All of it books separately through the park’s reservation system rather than through your event center rental.
The rental covers park entrance for your guests and your vendors, so nobody pays at the gate on the wedding day.
Getting there is I-80 East to US 40 East, then the Mayflower exit, number 8, onto SR-319.
Catering & Vendors at Jordanelle State Park Hailstone Event Center
There’s no in-house or exclusive caterer. You bring in whichever licensed vendor you want, and the park doesn’t publish a list to choose from.
The kitchen has microwaves, a sink, a refrigerator and freezer and granite counters, plus a mobile bar, catering carts and 2 full-size propane BBQ grills. There’s no range or oven, so your caterer needs to plan around that.
Anyone serving alcohol has to show proof of liquor liability insurance 7 days before the event. That applies whether it’s your caterer, a hired bartender or a licensed server you bring in yourself.
Jordanelle State Park Hailstone Event Center Wedding Cost
A full rental of Hailstone Event Center is $4,000. That buys the Atrium, the Hall, the Trout Room and the kitchen, 6 hours of setup the day before, the full event day, and 6 hours of cleanup the day after. A $500 non-refundable deposit holds the date and applies to the total, with the balance due 7 days out.
The Trout Room rents on its own for $800 a full day or $400 a half day, Monday through Thursday, against a $250 deposit. That’s the option for a rehearsal dinner or a small ceremony rather than a full wedding.
Park entrance for your guests and vendors is included in the rental, so the caterer, the florist, the DJ and the bartender all get through the gate without paying separately. Outside the rental, day use runs $20 per vehicle May through October and $10 November through April, which is what you’ll pay driving out to walk the site beforehand.
Two costs sit outside the rental. A $100 special-use permit is required at least 60 days ahead, and booking inside 30 days costs more. If you’re serving alcohol, whoever pours it files proof of liquor liability insurance, $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate, a week before the wedding.
A Photographer’s Take on Jordanelle State Park Hailstone Event Center
It’s a lovely spot for DIYers, with mountain views in every direction. You can see the back side of Deer Valley Resort from the lawn and the reservoir sitting below it, and the whole site is wide and spacious in a way most venues aren’t.
That space is what makes the day flow out there: a ceremony looking over the lake, lawn games afterward, a cocktail hour where nobody is standing in anybody’s way, then dinner indoors or outdoors depending on the weather.
The real treat is sunset. Photographing with the mountains behind you at that hour is the reason to be at Jordanelle.
One word of caution. There’s boat traffic going back and forth on the reservoir, and a road you can see in the distance. It’s far enough away that it doesn’t feel like a nuisance, but you do see it, which isn’t the case at a lot of the more secluded resorts I work at. Worth knowing before you fall for the view.
