Log Haven is one of Utah’s most intimate and romantic mountain wedding venues. It sits in Millcreek Canyon on 40 private acres of old-growth trees, with soft filtered light, a waterfall and real seclusion.
Couples come for the Wasatch setting and stay for the food, because Log Haven is one of the few wedding venues in the state built around a working restaurant that people drive up the canyon for on an ordinary Tuesday. If you care what your guests eat, it’s worth a tour.

Log Haven Wedding Info
Log Haven sits 4 miles up Millcreek Canyon, about 20 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. The property covers 40 private acres, ceremony and reception both happen on site, and weddings run year-round by moving between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Log Haven holds one wedding on site per day, and the restaurant doesn’t necessarily close to the public otherwise, depending on which spaces are booked.
It nearly came down in the late 1980s. Margo Provost bought it in 1994, restored it and ran it for the next 32 years. A four-partner group bought Log Haven in February 2026 and has said publicly that it intends to keep the place as it is.
Ceremony Sites at Log Haven
The Lakeside Garden Meadow takes 10 to 300 guests for a ceremony. It’s the largest wedding space on the property and the only one that reaches 300.
The Hillside Amphitheater holds 150 to 175 guests for a ceremony. Rented as a seated event space alongside the patio or the Library Suite, plan on closer to 100.
The Winter Conservatory holds up to 100 for a ceremony and 80 for a seated dinner, and Log Haven calls it especially popular in winter and the shoulder seasons.
Reception Spaces at Log Haven
The Waterfall and Garden Patio holds up to 120 for a reception, and combined with the Hillside Amphitheater and the Library Suite it seats 275. Log Haven says this space sees the most use in spring, summer and fall.
The whole restaurant books for up to 425 guests. That’s a different transaction from renting one space, and it’s the real ceiling if you want the entire property to yourself.
Getting Ready, Lodging & Guest Logistics
There’s no lodging at Log Haven, so everyone drives up and down the canyon for the day. That’s the biggest practical difference between this venue and a mountain resort. Hotels Log Haven has pointed couples to include Hyatt Place, Hampton Inn and Residence by Marriott, about 20 minutes away — worth confirming current options directly.
Parking is handled. Valet is complimentary, and when it isn’t running, guests self-park across the street at the waterfall.
Millcreek Canyon charges a per-vehicle fee, and Log Haven provides exit vouchers so guests shouldn’t be paying it themselves. Confirm the vouchers cover your date, and tell guests in advance either way.
The canyon’s upper gate closes to vehicles on November 1 each year and reopens in late spring. Log Haven runs weddings year-round, so ask how the gate affects a late-fall or winter date.
Catering & Vendors at Log Haven
Log Haven’s own kitchen supplies the food. Plated meals, buffets, rehearsal dinners and cocktail receptions are all described on its wedding page. A third-party listing has all food, beverage and alcohol as venue-provided, while Log Haven’s own pages describe the service without stating it as a rule, so confirm directly if outside catering matters to you.
Log Haven Wedding Cost
Log Haven doesn’t currently publish wedding pricing. What it will tell you is that the number moves with guest count, season, timing, which spaces you use and what you serve, and that the way to get it is a consultation.
The last published figures, from 2023, were reception rental $700 to $10,000 for six hours of event time (five hours for a daytime event), with overtime at $325 an hour. A ceremony added to a reception started at $250. A ceremony on its own ran $1,000 to $2,000. Catering started at $32 a person, and space-usage fees began at $750.
Millcreek Canyon’s own per-vehicle fee is $5 daily and $3 for seniors, and Log Haven provides exit vouchers so guests shouldn’t be paying it themselves.
None of that is the bill. Log Haven also sets a minimum expenditure covering food, beverage, tax and service charges, required for an exclusive, all-evening rental of its private rooms, and some spaces carry that additional usage fee on top of the rental. Neither the minimum nor the service-charge rate is published. Ask for both before you plan a budget around anything else here.
A Photographer’s Take on Log Haven
I’m at Log Haven as often as anywhere I shoot, and the reason is the light. The property faces east and the whole place sits under old-growth trees, so what falls on the ceremony and on family photos is soft and filtered rather than hard.
Past the ceremony sites there’s the waterfall, the wooded stretches, and the front of the restaurant itself, which photographs as well as anything else on the property. None of it is far apart, and that’s what lets a day here come together as one story instead of a set of separate locations.
The food is the other thing. Log Haven is a restaurant first, and it’s the kind of place people drive up the canyon for on a date night, so your guests will eat better than they expect to at a wedding.
One caution. The getting-ready rooms are small, and access to the property starts later in the day than it would at a resort where you’re already staying on site. Most couples I work with get ready at an Airbnb or a hotel down the canyon and come up for the last few things, the dress and the finishing touches.
A lot of them also do a first look and family photos before the ceremony, which is the right call here. It’s how you get to actually be at your own cocktail hour instead of racing the clock through it.
