Sundance Mountain Resort is where nature, art, and story genuinely intersect. Robert Redford founded it in 1969 on an ethos of preservation and creativity, and it still feels timeless rather than trendy. It sits under Mount Timpanogos in Provo Canyon, spruce and pine around the base buildings and a mountaintop ceremony site that looks out over Stewart Falls.
A wedding here tends to run top to bottom. The ceremony is up the mountain at a site you reach by chairlift, and the reception is back down at the base, in a hall beside the pond or a room built around a fireplace. There are 8 event spaces between those two poles, beds for the whole party, and one kitchen behind every plate.

Ceremony Sites at Sundance Mountain Resort
Mandan Summit is the mountaintop ceremony site, reached by riding the Outlaw Express chairlift. The view is a 360-degree sweep taking in Mount Timpanogos, Cascade Mountain, Provo Canyon and Stewart Falls. Guests ride back down to the base for the reception.
Bearclaw Cabin is further out, two chairlifts up, with 360-degree views over Heber and Utah Valleys. Elk Meadows is a meadow ringed by aspens that you reach on foot or by four-wheel-drive, so build extra transportation time into the day if you book it.
Closer in, ceremonies also happen at the Redford Conference Center, which sits inside a grove of spruce and pine and runs to nearly 3,500 square feet with a large fireplace, and at the Rehearsal Hall by the pond.
Sundance has also offered the Wasatch Room, an intimate log cabin with a flagstone patio that holds up to 50 guests, though it isn’t on the resort’s current venue list, so confirm it’s still available before you count on it.
Reception Spaces at Sundance Mountain Resort
The Rehearsal Hall is the largest indoor space at Sundance: 4,223 square feet with 17-foot ceilings, sliding barn-style glass doors and the ability to subdivide into three sections. It seats about 250 for a banquet and holds around 300 for a flowing reception. The Redford Conference Center is the other main reception room.
Three smaller spaces round out the list. The Screening Room is a 144-seat theater built in 1987, with an 1,100-square-foot lobby of stone floors, a fireplace and sliding glass doors onto the lawn.
The Lookout frames Mount Timpanogos through its windows and hangs historic photographs of the resort on its walls. Mountain Camp Day Lodge is the newest of the 8, with flexible indoor-outdoor rooms that also face Timpanogos. Across all 8 spaces there’s roughly 12,000 square feet of event space.
A few things you can’t do with the rooms: nothing gets tacked or nailed to the walls, candles have to sit inside glass containers, and fireworks and sparklers aren’t allowed. Confirm the current terms with the resort.
Getting Ready, Lodging & Guest Logistics
There are 63 rooms at The Inn, 95 cottage rooms and 10 mountain homes on site, plus Airbnb-style rentals around the resort. Check-in has run 4 p.m. and check-out noon, both worth confirming when you block rooms.
Wedding bookings have come with a complimentary bridal suite, a welcome package and a 60-minute massage. Confirm what’s still included when you get your quote.
There’s a full-service spa on site, along with The Springs, a set of three relaxation pools with hot tubs and a sauna. For food and drinks outside the wedding itself there’s the Tree Room, the Foundry Grill, the Library Lounge and the Owl Bar. Guests with time to fill around the wedding have zip lines, horseback rides, mountain biking and the hike to Stewart Falls on site.
One thing to raise early: Sundance doesn’t guarantee your wedding will be the only one on site that day. Ask what else is booked before you commit to a date.
Catering & Vendors at Sundance Mountain Resort
Catering is entirely in-house, and so is the bar. All alcohol served at a private function has to be purchased through Sundance, and menus are built per event rather than published as a set list, so you call for them. Sundance doesn’t provide the wedding cake itself; bring your own and the resort’s cake-cutting fee applies.
Any wedding with more than one event, a rehearsal dinner plus a ceremony for instance, has to hire an outside wedding planner. A single-event wedding still needs an on-site, day-of contact. Nothing Sundance publishes names a required or preferred list for the rest of your vendors, so confirm directly if that shapes who you hire.

Under 100 guests, a room fee applied on a sliding scale: $1,500 for 90 to 99 guests, $3,000 for 80 to 89, $4,500 for 70 to 79, and $6,000 for 60 to 69. Cake-cutting has run $2.50 a person.
Pets staying in lodge rooms have carried a $25 fee.
WeddingWire shows a $15,000 starting price and a $39-per-person bar minimum, but those are their own estimates rather than numbers from Sundance.
What Sundance does confirm is what a booking covers: the function space, tables, chairs, china, glass, silver, basic linens, staff, food and alcohol. Because catering and the bar are both in-house, one quote from the resort should cover the site and the food together. To get it you have to call.
A Photographer’s Take on Sundance Mountain Resort
If I had to pick one ceremony site as the best in Utah, I’d pick Mandan Summit, up the Outlaw Express, looking out over Stewart Falls.
The reason is the direction everyone is facing. At golden hour a subject looks best backlit, and this is one of the very few venues where the guests are looking west, which puts the sun behind the couple instead of in their eyes.
You get dimension. You get haze coming off the mountains standing behind them. Words don’t do it justice and you really have to see the photos, because it’s epic, and I don’t use that word lightly.
Down at the base, the pond is where I take families. It can be shaded, and there aren’t many shady spots at the Utah resorts in that window after the sun drops and before it’s actually dark. Instead of squinting into flat light, you get portraits with water and flowers and the landscaping behind you.
The food is one of the real treats here, and the reception area is charming. The Redford and film-festival history is all through it, but the place has grown up too. It isn’t the backwoods ski resort it was several decades ago. It feels like Park City should feel.
